Abaca is a tropical plant species which lives 8-20 years.
It is also known as Manila hemp.
It is grown in Manila since 1500.
Most of the world production is made in Philippines.
Applications
Warp and sail-cloth,
Pillow filling material production.
Functions
Fibers are in vagine in the form of bundles.
Fibers are in different colors change from white to brown.
Fiber length changes from 2 to 3m.
It consists of 63-64% cellulose, 10% hemi- cellulose, 5% lignin, and pectin.
Also it has 10% moisture content.
